How to get to Popa Paradise

Most people fly into San Jose, Costa Rica or Panama City. Then catch an approximately fifty minute connecting flight directly into Bocas del Toro airport. We pick you up at the airport and transport you to our boat dock a few minutes away for the twenty minute trip to Popa Island.  This journey takes you through a dazzling array of small mangrove islands and cays scattered throughout the calm, clear and shallow waters.

Climate and Seasons

The Caribbean coast of Panama is in the tropical rainforest with high temperatures in the mid 80’s to low 90’s year round. Humidity can be high after rainfall. Evenings are generally refreshingly cool due to the ocean breezes. There is no distinct wet or dry season but some months are wetter that others. January and February tend to be wetter and September and October tend to be dryer.  Often rain falls at night and you wake to beautiful tropical sunrises. Panama is outside the hurricane zone and storms when they come tend to blow through quickly.

What Clothing Should I Bring

Causal beach clothes for warm tropical climate are most appropriate.  Also, a waterproof lightweight anorak and folding umbrella for tropical rains.  Rubber soled ‘Reef’ shoes are a handy item, as is an old long-sleeved light shirt for protecting your back from the sun if you plan to do some snorkeling. A hat and sunglasses also help when out on the water.  Lightweight long pants for dinners in the evenings are also recommended for the gents. Sunscreen and repellant are also a good idea.
